Description
Bog Oak is not a specific species of Oak but its more a term given to Oak that has been buried in a peat bog for hundreds or sometimes even thousands of years, most frequently occurring in the United Kingdom, with English Oak being the most salvaged species taken from bogs. Whilst in the Bog the extremely low oxygen levels protect the wood from normal decay and the peat provides acidic conditions where iron salts and other minerals react with the tannins in the wood which over time give it its distinct dark brown almost black colour.
These Bog Oak Wood Earrings measure approx 9mm x 4mm and are on sterling silver backs.
